We all want to get better at influencing people — get better at how to move others to take action, and make them do what we want.

The science of social psychology and the study of human behavior is ever expanding, and we are slowly but surely starting to understand what it is that moves others to take action.

Cialdini was one of the first to study what makes us tick, and the field has really taken off in recent years.

Most of the science however, is focused on the underlying principles of persuasion, and not ways to use it in real life.

The goal of this post is to show you a few surprising phrases that you can use in real life in order to increase your influence with others.

1: “I Heard You’re Very Good At What You Do”

Most people likes getting a complement — especially for something that they consider important and worthwhile, and for most people work very much falls in this category.

The thing about giving a sincere and honest complement, is that people instantly like you better. As I wrote about in Magic Words, you are exponentially more likely to be persuasive, when others like you.
