One Mind-Boggling Way You Can Improve Your Day Right Now (Especially If You Feel Like Shit)

I have a tendency to get long-winded.

Sometimes brevity is king.

So I’m going to keep this short.

There are two ways you can improve your day no matter who you are, where you are or what you are doing.

Write Down What’s On Your Mind

Do a literal mind-dump. Get something to write on — a phone, pen and paper, a journal, your computer or a typewriter. Anything goes. Go ahead and write down what’s on your mind. Without judgment. It doesn’t have to be profound, it doesn’t have to be smart, it doesn’t have to be anything.

Just write.

Write down whatever is on your mind, what you are annoyed about, what you had for lunch, how you’re feeling about your mom or your partner, or your genitals. Whatever comes to mind.

If you can’t seem to get started, write the following sentence: “What’s on my mind right now is…” and then you start writing from there.

What you’ve got to do now is to write and write and write until you can’t think of a single additional thing to write down. When you have emptied your head of everything that is rummaging around in there I’ll bet you feel better than you did before.

Doing mind-dumps or (morning)-pages has helped me tremendously.

Writing down my emotions, my ideas, whatever is on the mind at the time, what sucks about work, what is amazing about my fiancee or why she sucks or why the cat is being annoying, or why my amazingly brilliant Medium article has 3 views and zero claps.

It all fits.

Nothing is too big or too small to put in your pages.

Just whatever you’re feeling at the time.

I guarantee that you’re going to feel great after.

I’ll go so far as to say that whatever your mental state right now, writing down what’s on your mind — expressing it (i.e. pressing it out) — is going to help.

Whatever ails you — writing it down is the cure.

Turns out brevity is harder than I thought.
