Relax — You’ve Got This

I think we can all agree that the internet is awash is self-help content. One thing is that we have the gurus — the Tim Ferrisses, the Darren Hardys and the James Clears — all of whose newsletter I have subscribed to at one point or other.

Some of them have been moderately helpful and/or entertaining, but mostly they haven’t. When we talk about jumping into the motivational/inspirational/aspirational message-soup I’ve jumped in with both feet. Sometimes head first.

There is no doubt that some of this information is helpful and useful, and if you don’t know anything about goal-setting, then you definitely benefit from some of this content. As with most things however, there is diminishing returns — which means that after you’ve read one or two articles about goal-setting you’ve probably read them all, and knowledge is not the issue.

For the better part of the last decade I’ve been consumed by anything self-help. To top it all off, I’ve written my fair share of self-help ish related material. I have undoubtedly benefited from reading some of this stuff, but at a certain point, reading any more becomes counter-productive.

For the last little while, I’ve found myself feeling overwhelmed and stressed out about achieving things and the reason is, I’ve looked outside of myself, gotten caught up in people in my Instagram feed and…
