What is your philosophy?

It’s been more than two years since I last wrote anything for Medium. Not that I haven’t written anything in two years, I’ve just not had anything to say that mattered, and as such my writing has suffered. My motivation to write has suffered. To say I’m a bit rusty is an understatement, so you’re probably going to have to excuse a few missteps along the way.

With that tiny introduction out of the way let’s get down to business.

I want to ask you a question.

A question someone asked me a long time ago, that made me think.

A lot.

The person asked me the following question:

“What is your philosophy?”

I was dumbstruck.

This might seem like an innocent question on the surface, but the more I thought about it, the more I started to wonder. What is my philosophy?

It quickly turned out I didn’t have one. I didn’t know what I thought about things. Worse yet, I didn’t even know what kind of things it was important to have a philosophy about.

This led me to explore different religions. Christianity and Islam mostly. None of them appealed to me however — the dogma didn’t resonate for me. Neither did the rituals, the garb or the prayers. I’m happy for the people that it helps, and is…
